Udaipur, City Palace and counting change
Day 10 and we were finally spending more than 1 night somewhere! Udaipur is the home town of our host/CEO and where we spent Diwali. It's a beautiful city, built around a vast lake, so it takes a wonderful photo. We took a boat trip on the lake on our first evening, definitely worth it for the views and to help you get your bearings.
We hiked and took in the views of the lake and explored the streets and markets. It was nice to have a bit more of a holiday feel, we enjoyed long breakfasts with wifi. (Sorry, we had emails to answer and flights to book 🙈 honestly!). Oladar Village cafe was a favourite for wifi and breakfast. We were craving pancakes and french toast by this point. Oh, and there was a litter of puppies outside. We weren't sure who they belonged to or if they were quite healthy-looking street dogs, but we ended up falling madly in love with them and checking on Mum and puppies every day. We may have named them all too. Chai, Masala, and Paratha I think? You will forever be in our hearts.
We took a day trip to City Palace which is worth a visit. You can opt for a guide, we preferred just to wander and take in the architecture, which is incredible.
Entrance was 330 rupees, 30 for the complex and 300 for the museums itself.
Be wary however - 3 of 7 of us were shortchanged on entering and went back once we realised and assumed that wasn't a coincidence! We had a more feisty member of the group who we sent up first and finally after much denial they give us the money back. One of the girls had constantly been shortchanged over the trip but it was such small denominations that she wasn't sure if she was imagining it. It's a shame we experienced this as a group of travellers but we had been warned about this previously.
It's worth knowing how much change you are due before you hand it over and count it before you walk away, don't worry about a queue behind you because it's very common and does leave a bad taste in your mouth.
