A Birthday in Barcelona
I’m back after an amazing birthday weekend! Waking up drowning in flufffy pillows, knowing you aren’t going to work is possibly the best feeling on your birthday. That and eating your weight in cake and ice cream. So, onwards!
We stayed:
Casagrand Apartments. This was a highlight, it makes you question why you’ve ever stayed in a hostel but needs must. I’d do it all over again. We had a little rooftop pool and sauna, great after sangria at 2am... Plus you are welcomed with bubbly and cake. Sold. Also super central location.
AirBnB is the way forward when travelling in groups in my opinion. When splitting you can usually get a great deal and you have way more flexibility in terms of food. We were travelling with a group of veggies, gluten and dairy free’s, but more on food later!
We saw:
Park Guell: Beautiful nature park nestled in the hills.
The Cablecar over Barcelona's Port: Pretty self-explanatory, but the most amazing panoramic views, photos to come in the Scrap Book 🙂
The Sagrada Familia: You can't do Barcelona and not see this, obviously. Do book in advance if you want to go in, we didn't and didn't fancy hours of queuing, so enjoyed the outside before getting more sangria. See the theme here?
The Gothic Quarter: What it says on the tin. Wander through ancient, intricate buildings and try not to get lost. If you do, you'll just find another beautiful photo spot.
We ate:
A lot of tapas! We ate in Vivo Tapas (expensive, fancy but pretty good). Talla De Tapas (cheaper, more basic, but also good) and Cinco Jota.
Cinco Jotas was actually a pork restaurant which we hadn't intended to end up in. Considering two of us don't eat meat and others didn't eat pork, we were absolutely blown away. Honestly the best Mediterranean vegetables I've ever had and that’s a statement coming from me!
Good to know:
Wear trainers. We were covering 8/9 miles a day on foot. It's really beautiful to walk around and I'd say the best way to cover it. It’s not all that big. All in all, a beautiful foodie city break with amazing architecture. I would definitely go back in the summer. We didn't quite have the weather to make the most of the beach! Bring an umbrella, the weather was as unpredictable as a weekend in London.
We pooled all our photos so most of these snaps are not mine! I'd like to thank our resident photographers for getting some candid beauties :)
